Admissions
Intakes
There are 3 intakes in Canada namely, Fall, Winter and Summer. However, the Fall intake has the most enrolments and is also the most popular amongst Indian students. The Winter intake is best for students who miss out on the Fall intake. With Summer intake marking the start of only limited courses:

When to Apply?
While different universities and courses may have different deadlines, majority of institutions have their deadlines between December and March for the Fall intake and for Winter and Summer intakes, its best to apply atleast 3-6 months prior to the course start date. This leaves enough time for the University to make an application decision and for you as an international student to apply for the VISA.

Scholarships
There are multiple scholarships available to international students to study in Canada. These scholarships may be offered by the University, the faculty, the government or external organization. The scholarship may be available to high calibre students who have shown academic consistency and may be awarded on the basis of strong merit or simply on the basis of need.
The scholarships may cover full your full cost of study or just the tuition fees or a part of the tuition fees. The scholarships for the subsequent years of study usually come with condition of consistence performance in academics in the initial year of study.

Student VISA for Canada
Study Permit
A Study Permit is given to students who are prepared to continue their higher education in Canada. You may only apply for a ‘Study Permit’ if you have an acceptance to study from a Designated Learning Institute (DLI). In addition to an acceptance from a DLI, you also need medical test, a clean criminal record and proof of sufficient funds to cover your studies and living expenses. And you may apply for the VISA under SDS category or a Generic Category.

Work Opportunity
Part Time Work
While on a Study permit in Canada, you may work part-time along with your studies. Part-time jobs may be sought on-campus, in retails or hospitality, tutoring or researching and in offices or doing freelance work. You will be permitted to work 20 hours a week and 40 hours a week during break/vacation time.
Post-Study Work
On completing a full-time study program of eight months or more in duration from a Canadian DLI, you maybe eligible for VISA extension to work in Canada as Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) for upto three years. Depending on the duration of the course you have completed, the duration of the PGWP may vary.
- Courses upto 8 months – No PGWP
- Courses of 8 months to 2 yrs duration – PGWP equal to the length of the course
- Courses of 2 yrs or more duration – PGWP of upto 3 years

FAQs
The entry requirements in Canada vary depending on the courses and institutions. However, the minimum requirement for admission is 55% in previous education qualification for the Community colleges and 70% and over for Universities.
Along with the minimum percentage requirement, you would need to show English proficiency via IELTS or TOEFL. AND some courses may also need additional standardised test scores.
For a number of PG Diploma level courses, 15 years of formal education is acceptable. The Masters level courses at the Universities may traditionally require 16 years of education. However, subject to different evaluations, some universities may accept students with 15 years of formal education onto Masters courses.

There are multiple scholarships that are offered by Canadian government, universities and external bodies to international students to support their studies in Canada. These can be in the form of scholarships, grants or bursaries.
As an international student on study permit in Canada, you can work part-time for 20 hours a week during your semesters and 40 hours a week during your vacation time.
