PTE Academic Format
PTE Academic is taken as a computer based test in a secure test centre or from the comfort of your home through an online version. Divided in 3 sections, it tests your skills in Speaking and Writing, Reading and Listening, which must be completed in 2 hours duration. The test assesses the real life English with 20 different types of questions all to be completed in a single session.
Speaking & Writing
7 Types of Ques (54-67 Mins)
This section tests your spoken and written English, as you’d use in an academic setting through 7 different types of questions. These questions range from reading aloud from the screen; repeating the sentence after listening to it; describing an image; retelling a short lecture in your own words after listening or reading it; answering a question in a single or limited words; summarizing a text; and writing an essay.
Reading
5 Types of Ques (29-30 Mins)
This section assesses your reading skills and interpreting information. Through 5 different types of questions such as Reading and Writing by filling the blanks; Multiple choice question with multiple answers based on the text provided; re-ordering paragraphs in the correct sequence; and multiple choice questions with single responses based on the provided text.
Listening
8 Types of Ques (30-43 Mins)
The questions in this section are based on audio or video clips and assesses how accurately you are able to unravel conversations or lectures that you listen to in English. The questions include summarized the text you heard; multiple choice questions with multiple or single answers; filling the blanks; highlighting the correct summary; highlighting incorrect words; and writing from dictation.
